Inspired by Matisse’s “The Dance” and the Buddhist concept of Interbeing, this painting explores the idea that nothing exists in isolation. The figures, trees, and mycelial networks merge into one another because the boundaries we often perceive between ourselves and the rest of life are more fluid than they appear.
Ecology shows us that forests function through relationships—trees exchange nutrients through underground fungal networks, species evolve together, and every organism participates in shaping the whole. We are no different. Our lives are formed through constant exchange with one another and with the living world.
“The Dance of Interbeing” is a reflection on this reality: that connection is not simply something we experience, but the condition from which life itself emerges.
